Department of Botany under the Green Youth Movement – GYM program carried out a plantation derive and tree adaptation campaign at the Aimenabad Campus of Government College Women University Sialkot. The GYM club at GCWUS was led by Dr. Zarrin Fatima Rizvi as a focal person and Dr. Sajjad Hyder and Dr. Adeel Mehmood as Oversight committee members along with the students’ representatives. Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar along with the registrar, respective departmental heads, and officials from the management side graced the event. Dr. Sajjad Hyder from the Botany Department briefed the guests and participants about the GYM program and the activity plans. Dr. Zarrin Fatima Rizvi as a focal person of the GYM club welcomed the guests and shared the idea of planting a small man-made Jungle at Aimenabad Campus– GCWUS. Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar planted the tree plant and inaugurated the botanical garden at Aimenabad Campus – GCWUS. Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar appraised the activities organizers and students for planning and execution of this activity. She further emphasized on the importance of planting trees and on how this kind of activity can lower carbon emissions and can mitigate emerging environmental problems and changes in climate. Along with this, students from BS degree programs planted tree plants and adopted the plants. Students promised to take care of the plants to help them grow into big trees.
