The Department of Sociology organized a one-day workshop on Academic Writing for 7th Semester students to improve their written expression for a research project. In addition, the faculty members of the Sociology Department also attended the workshop. Dr. Muhammad Umair Ashraf, In charge department of Sociology, served as coordinator while Dr. Muhammad Rashid Hafeez Assistant Professor of the Department of English was the resource person of said program. It was an honor to have Dr. Muhammad Afzaal Butt, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences as chief guest. The workshop started with the recitation of the holy Quran.
Dr. Muhammad Rashid Hafeez started the workshop with an explanation of the topic by asking students some questions about sentence structure. After engaging the students, he further explained that writing is a medium of human communication that involves the representation of a language through a system of physically inscribed, mechanically transferred, or digitally represented symbols. And academic writing is the formal writing style used in colleges and universities for papers, dissertations, and publications. The students were engaged in several activities to hone their skills in formal writing.
